“Behold the bread that we share”

On 27 April 2026, between 4:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., we wish to celebrate this important moment.

The motto of the gathering underscores the communion of the Protestant churches in Europe in the Lord’s Supper—the heart of our worship services and also of the Leuenberg Agreement. The shared bread creates reconciled diversity.

Arrival

4:30 - 5:30 p.m.

In the glass foyer of Luther Church, you will receive a warm welcome. Here, after your journey, you are invited to refresh yourself with coffee or tea and greet familiar or new faces. Susanne Schenk and Mario Fischer will also receive their first congratulations here.

This is likewise the place and time to hand over any bread you have brought with you.

Worship service

5:30 - 7:30 p.m.

All are warmly invited to the worship service. Its contents will be shaped by the Presidium of the Communion of Protestant Churches in Europe: Rita Famos, Marko Tiitus, and Georg Plasger. The liturgical leadership lies with Ingrid Bachler.

In a dialogue sermon, Susanne Schenk and Mario Fischer will each offer their insights into the biblical text. The bread that has been brought and the wine gather us around the Lord’s Table as signs of communion. Interpretation will be provided for English-speaking guests.

Agape Meal

7:30 - 9:30 p.m.

In the parish hall of the Luther Church the bread that has been brought will be shared—along with thoughts, emotions, and hopes. Mario Fischer and Susanne Schenk will take time for personal encounters and conversation with all those present.

The offering collected on this day is designated for the project “School Meals in Aleppo.”
